Eoin Brodie is a Senior Scientist in the Ecology Department of Berkeley Lab’s Earth and Environmental Sciences Area (EESA) where he serves as the Deputy Director of the Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division. He is also Program Domain Lead for Environmental and Biological Systems Sciences. At the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Brodie is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management and he co-directs the Joint Berkeley Initiative in Microbiomes Sciences. He obtained his Ph.D. from University College Dublin in Ireland and joined LBNL following postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley.

Dr. Brodie is microbiologist and biogeochemist who works from molecular to ecosystem scales. He uses technologies to reverse-engineer complex microbiomes in natural and managed ecosystems. Combined with computational models to explore the principles of microbiome functioning, Dr. Brodie emphasizes translational ecology approaches to harness microbiomes for healthy soils and resilient ecosystems and organisms.

Dr. Brodie currently serves as the Lead PI for the Watershed Function Science Focua Area and leads the Microbial Mechanisms component of the Belowground Biogeochemistry Science Focus Area. He also serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Microbiology.
