In the Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division, we focus on using experimental observations and measurements to improve the ability of climate models to predict extreme weather and related impacts, such as wildfires and diminished food and water. We work to translate scientific understanding into long-term solutions to environmental challenges.

CESD scientists are engaged in a wide range of research relevant to understanding and adapting to environmental changes and disturbance. They conduct lab and field experiments, and leverage climate modeling to explore the following: Carbon Management; Climate and Atmospheric Dynamics; Environmental Biology; Environmental Resilience; and Water Security.

Our work is strengthened by a diverse array of scientific expertise, facilities, and custom-fabricated technologies. These enable scientific innovation and cutting-edge research, which CESD scientists share with the world through their publications.
