Andrew Jones

Andy Jones is an Earth scientist who works at the interface of human and environmental systems. His research uses quantitative models and data analysis to understand climate change and human-Earth system interactions at decision-relevant scales. He collaborates with social scientists and interacts closely with stakeholders to understand how science can more effectively provide actionable insight into strategies for increasing resilience of energy water, food, and urban systems.

He is a research scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory where he leads the Earth Systems and Society Program Domain and co-leads the Resilient Systems Grand Challenge theme for the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area. He previously served as the Deputy Director of the Climate Readiness Institute. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Energy and Resources Group, an interdisciplinary graduate program at UC Berkeley.

Dr. Jones is the LBL co-PI for the multi-institutional Project Hyperion, within which he leads a stakeholder engagement process with water management professionals in four case study basins across the US aimed at evaluating and improving the decision-relevance of high-resolution climate projections for long-range water system planning.

Dr. Jones is a senior scientific advisor for Cal-Adapt and the Cal-Adapt Analytics Engine, California's climate data platform and analytic toolkit for adaptation planning and decision-maker support.

Dr. Jones is also currently leading efforts to understand urban environmental processes (heat waves, vegetation dynamics, hydrologic flows and their implications for energy and water resources) in the context of changing climate, land use, and demographics.
